Melbourne Remand Centre Upgrade

Melbourne Remand Centre Upgrade

Projects

Project: Melbourne Remand Centre Upgrade

Principal Contractor: Built Pty Ltd

The Melbourne Remand Centre Upgrade forms part of the Victorian Government's $1.8 billion investment to provide flexible prison capacity across the state. The program is also designed to deliver initiatives that break the cycle of reoffending and keep people out of prison. The majority of the expansion works use prefabricated steel modular cells, which are delivered by truck and craned into position on site. Building the cells offsite improves the safety of construction workers and the cost and quality of the fabrication process, while limiting disruption to the working prison and enabling a quicker construction time.

Key aspects of the project include:

  • $1.8 billion Victorian Government investment in flexible prison capacity
  • Programs delivered alongside the upgrade to help break the cycle of reoffending
  • Prefabricated steel modular cells delivered by truck and craned into place
  • Offsite construction reducing disruption to the operating prison and speeding up delivery

HCS is engaged on the project to provide Underground Service Locating services.
