The Department of Defence is spending $463.1m in order to upgrade training, support and accommodation facilities at Cerberus.

Works include:

• upgrading essential service infrastructure, including water, electrical, sewerage, stormwater, ICT and gas services
• constructing a new Logistics Precinct
• constructing a new School of Survivability and Ship Safety
• constructing a new Survival at Sea training facility
• upgrading Maritime Logistics Schools and the Personnel Support program’s facilities
• upgrading the Australian Defence Force Physical Training School, Fitness Facilities and Running Track and the Australian Defence Force Catering building

HCS is engaged on the project to provide Underground Service Locating services.

The program is part of the government’s $1.8 billion investment to provide flexible prison capacity, deliver programs to break the cycle of reoffending and keep people out of prison.

The majority of expansion works will utilise prefabricated steel modular cells, delivered by truck and craned onto the construction sites. Building the cells offsite promotes the safety of construction workers, improves the cost and quality associated with the fabrication process and limits potential disruptions in working prisons, enabling a quicker construction time.

The Craigieburn Road Upgrade involves adding extra lanes on Craigieburn Road between Hume Highway and Mickleham Road as well as upgrading intersections and building better walking, cycling, and public transport connections. The upgrade will improve connections to homes, businesses, and recreation facilities. Whilst also bringing traffic back to Craigieburn Road and giving local streets back to the community. The project will provide easier access to jobs and services whilst also increasing the liveability of the area and improving safety.

The Mickleham Road Upgrade involves the construction of additional lanes in each direction on Mickleham Road between Somerton Road and Dellamore Boulevard, as well as adding new traffic lights at Aitken College. The roundabout at Somerton Road will be upgraded with a new traffic light intersection, including priority bus lanes. Upgrading of the Hillview Road and Dellamore Boulevard intersections will also occur.
