The Clyde Road Upgrade is a $150–200 million project delivered by Seymour Whyte for Major Road Projects Victoria, upgrading a 1.2-kilometre section of Clyde Road, an essential north-south arterial route over the Princes Freeway in Berwick, south-east Melbourne. The project is enhancing traffic flow and safety through additional lanes between the Princes Freeway and Kangan Drive, widening of the existing Clyde Road bridge, and an upgrade to the Clyde Road / Kangan Drive intersection. Clyde Road provides crucial access to the Berwick Health and Education Precinct, including Casey Hospital, St John of God Hospital, Chisholm TAFE, Federation University and Berwick Railway Station, and the upgrade will support the precinct’s ongoing growth. The project also incorporates sustainability initiatives including Victoria’s first hydrogen generator trial for civil infrastructure and a recycled-first approach to construction materials, and is due for completion in 2027.

Key aspects of the project include:

• Additional traffic lanes between the Princes Freeway and Kangan Drive
• Widening of the existing Clyde Road bridge over the Princes Freeway
• Upgrade of the Clyde Road / Kangan Drive intersection, new shared paths, lighting and drainage
• Improved access to the Berwick Health and Education Precinct, supporting future growth
