The Suburban Rail Loop East is Victoria’s largest transport infrastructure project, connecting Melbourne’s middle suburbs via a new 26-kilometre underground rail line from Cheltenham to Box Hill. The Clayton works form part of the AU$3.6 billion tunnelling and station package awarded to the Suburban Connect consortium, comprising ACCIONA, CPB Contractors and Ghella, covering 16 kilometres of twin tunnels between Cheltenham and Glen Waverley and two new underground station boxes. At Clayton, crews have completed all 123 reinforced concrete diaphragm wall panels forming the station box and the underground passenger connection to the existing Clayton Station, clearing the way for excavation to begin. The new Clayton station is planned to connect passengers to the orbital rail network from 2035.

Key aspects of the project include:

• Construction of a new underground Suburban Rail Loop station box at Clayton
• 123 reinforced concrete diaphragm wall panels providing structural support and groundwater control for deep excavation
• An underground passenger connection to the existing Clayton Station
• Delivery by the Suburban Connect consortium of ACCIONA, CPB Contractors and Ghella
